The rain has returned to the Canadian prairies, welcome and cleansing! The birds think so too.

Here at Avril Cottage there is a fully modern kitchen, but you will not find a dishwasher anywhere in sight. Dishes are washed in small batches by hand which conserves both water and electricity.

Outdoors, water barrels are located a various points throughout the gardens to capture nature’s bounty. With the rain, the earth’s soil has been quenched and the barrels topped up to be used during drier periods.

Mulch covers the hottest of the garden beds to help retain moisture and reduce unwanted weeds that can quickly take over. More natural mulch will be obtained for free from a generous neighbour and spread on the mini orchard over the next weeks. Small and slow solutions.

Water is life, and its management can be complex, or as simple as this!
Blessings to all!
